Australian Teepee Retreat - Nimbin Rox YHA
Nimbin Rox is a very special place. The hostel is a large ranch style house that has been turned into a hostile with a few tents and one teepee scattered around the property. There is multiple outdoor hang out spots with fire pits, outdoor bean bags, TVs. The entire property is connected by winding pebbled paths through tropical gardens. The gardens keep the pool tucked away as a tropical oasis. The owner lives on property and is an expert botanist, he can tell you anything about any of the hundreds of plants located on the property. He's kinda hot to like has a 6 pack and is young. Personally, I think he has a pretty awesome job.
The biggest appeal to me was the teepee. The minute I found out it was cheaper than staying in a hostile room bunk bed, I was sold. I think it was $19 -23 a night. The teepee sleeps 5 people but I had it relatively to myself the entire 9 days. It wasn't awkward when other people/strangers were also booked to stay in the teepee...it was more a cool way to meet people.
The teepee included a private deck with picnic table overlooking the view. The teepee had electricity, indoor christmas lights, and heat for in the winter. The thick cot mats were laid out in a circle around the diameter of the teepee. There was enough space in the middle of the teepee for me to spread out, do yoga and like rave/hulahoop on the nights I had it to myself. I my vibe definitely got down in that teepee.
Located a quarter mile up a dirt road and across a river, you are pretty off the map. It was such a trek to get up to the teepee from Byron Bay with all of my bags the minute I stepped foot in my teepee I added 5 extra days. I just felt it. My hippie vagabond LA detox was in full manifestation here, like my soul instantly felt at home. By the time I left Nimbin Rocks I had totally cleared out my energy. The chaos of Los Angeles was a faint memory. I literally just read philosophy books for hours there, like going to this place made me smarter and the scenery inspired me to like contemplate Plato and shit. lol it was a lot. I remember one night these girls from Melbourne came to stay in the teepee and they were all preppy and then I was like literally wearing a turban, long skirt, homemade tye-dye shirt with no shoes...I hadn't showered in 4 days. When they looked at me I know I had like fully gotten into the Nimbin grove lol like me in a turban was intense. I also didn't like showering, I just swam in the river. Also important to point out the river has wild platypuses...and definitely has fairies.
Also should mention the whole property had wifi. Although its a really easy walk into town there is also a shuttle. Pretty fricken sweet
There isn't much to do in Nimbin besides smoke joints and stare at this amazing view. I don't know how it just captures you for hours. Wallabies will hop by, Kookaburra birds will fly around the trees. People come and go to smoke and chat. Everyone at the hostile becomes your friend and you sit high AF in solitude together and just daze off at the rainbows and the mountains. It is the definition of TRANQUIL. I just read books and wrote, that was pretty much it.
